We have received a lot of e-mails about bidding practices on my site.
Most of the e-mails and concerns surround the bidding practices of new members, and the prices items sell for. it seems that when a member joins the site, either with a free bid promotion or purchased bids they go one of 2 way. they either place a few bids around on several auctions that are about to end and move on, or they go the complete opposite and place bids on auctions that are many days or weeks out. For some reason after asking a few members why they place bids on the auctions so far from ending, most say the same thing, people pay attention to the auctions ending soonest and not much attention on the ones that will end many days out. they figure one will get through the cracks and they will win." they don't get the fact that those auctions will end up on the previewed auctions ending soon, at some point and get a lot of attention. Placing of a few bids here and there is great for our business, but not so great for members who are not placing their bids wisely. We do not dissuade members from doing this, because as a businessman we are here to make money, however in our help center we point out better ways to win an auction on our site. Members actually get suspicious when they see people bidding on auctions so far out. They think something is going on when I fact it is only people thinking they are being smart. Or at least that is what is happening on our site. I cannot nor will I venture to guess what goes on at other sites. That would not be fair.\
A lot of this stems from members who join and are in a hurry to try and win something for a buck or two. They will take ten bids, and sped them out over 5 or 6 different auctions hoping one will win, you get 20 or 30 members doing the same thing each day and you get the idea.
Same thing when I get e-mails asking why people would pay more for an item than it’s real value. Well that’s not the case either. Those same members who are placing a few bids here and there are driving up the auction price. It’s not the same member paying to much it’s a bunch of members trying to get it as cheap as possible. Remember the other 100 people that placed a bid or 2 on a 50 dollar item were trying to get it for a buck or two, and a site owner that is what we want, as a member they get real suspicious and start thinking bots, shill bidders ect. That’s not the case at our site again can’t speak about others. We have been very blessed with a good amount of new members each day, we have grown tremendously over that past few months. Much more than I could even have hoped for. Many of our member or should I say a large percentage of our membership has come from word of mouth. In looking at my numbers what I find is a referral comes aboard with a free offer, and a large percentage of those free offers end up buying bid packs. That tells me people are having a good experience at our site and that is what we want
